The Difference Between The Rich And The Poor

"A rich man is just a poor man with other needs"
I remember a story I read... There was a sage who was looking at other sages around him and found that none of them smiled. So he tried to find out why. He asked a bearded, scholarly, eternal-bachelor who was in a brooding world of his own why he was sad and the scholar replied, "So much to learn and all I have learnt is just a drop in the ocean... what is there to be happy about?" "An ocean to learn!" he exclaimed and walked by gripping his book even tighter. Through the day the sage kept walking, asking different people the same question, "Why are you not happy? Why do you look sad" and everyone had so much to learn, so much to do and so much, much more of unfinished business that just kept them too busy to be happy.
Just then as he was passing through a brook, he saw a simple woman in tattered clothes, cheerfully whistle a tune, smiling all the while as she squatted on the floor doing a mountain of dishes outside her humble hut. He stopped in disbelief and like a man surprized to see light in the darkness, after a moment of puzzled silence, proceeded to ask the woman, "How come you are so happy? What makes you so happy???" She looked up, smiled again and like a school-going girl, giggled and shyly said, "Oh great one! you see, water here is so scarce and if I get a bucket of water to wash my bum, I am happy any day... so very happy!" and today she was!
The sage didn't have a word to say and walked on running the montage of people he had seen earlier that day in his mind and wondered "If only they had..."
How happy are we? With always having more to learn, more to earn, more to do, more to burn, more to turn, more to woo and with our endless list of things to do, sinking with every want, more and more into our world of chronic dissatisfaction and suburban drudgery. And all the while we think money makes us happy?! If only it does...

You Can Reach Nirvana In 10 Days

There once was a wannabe-disciple who went to a Guru to feel what being in 'nirvana' felt like. He knew what he wanted and asked the Guru to show him the path to this state through meditation et all. The Guru admitted him and the following conversation emerges 10 days later, soon after the disciple is quite convinced that the meditation he has practiced has helped him reach the state of "nothingness" a.k.a the state of nirvana (yeah right! faster than those 'learn Hindi in 30 days' courses. Must be one of those "I want it now" corporate rats).

Man: (Comes running and panting) Guruji, Guruji, I have reached the state of nirvana.
Guru: Thats great! So what did you realize?
Man: (Puff! Pant! Gasps for breath and...) I feel that I am nothing. From nothing I came and to nothing I go and am nothing in between. I feel great and I feel nothing inside and nothing on the outside.
Guru: Are you sure?
Man: Yes Guruji, with no ego I feel great.
Guru: Are you sure?
Man: Yeee.... (fatak! came a slap from nowhere) szzzzzzzzzz...
(The man looked at the Guru's hand now recoiling after delivering that blow. The man's eyes turned red as the Guru gently smiled. The man spat the blood now drooling out of his mouth and asked...)
Man: What the hell was that for you lousy old man?
Guru: (Still smiling) Now where were we?! So you were telling me that you have reached nirvana and you feel nothing and hence no ego... right?
Man: YEAH, RIGHT! (Still mumbling and hiding his clenching fists)
Guru: Then where did this anger come from?!...

The man went back into the ashram to continue his spiritual journey.

Spiritual or Religious

Me: So, are you a believer?
TWO: What do you mean?
Me: Well, are you a religious person?
TWO: No, I am plain spiritual.
Me: hahaha! Don't start again... whats the difference?!
TWO: Its like choosing to take a path or taking a pathless path. I just walk.
Me: So do you or don't you believe in the concept of "God"?!
TWO: hahaha! I just wonder why those who say they do, don't...

Take It

TWO: So have you been reading anything lately?!
Me: Not much, just those regular mags , classifieds and just for laugh sections.
TWO: So have you stopped writing then?!
Me: NO!
TWO: Then how do you write if you don't read?
Me: Whats the connection???
TWO: Writing is like a magician's hat... I have read, only when you put something in can you pull something out...
Me: Got it.

(Me and TWO walked to the nearest bookstore)

The Wise One Said SO

Me: Tried an acronym for the things we should be careful investing in...

The Wise One (TWO): So what is it now?

Me: Its the "TEM"

TWO: And what does it stand for?

Me: T stands for Time. E stands for Energy and M stands for Money. Its investment on these that makes us.

(In deep thought stood TWO and began in a low voice...)

TWO: Can we call it TEEM instead of TEM?

Me: And what would the second "E" stand for?!

TWO: Emotions... think you missed it.

(Then the moment of silence.)
