The Story Untold

This a story of long ago. Not a very interesting story or one that we can read out loud to our children before their bedtime yet one that must never the less be told and be known. An incident that is unsaid, unmentioned and lies unwrapped in the graves of history. The ghosts of the past, however, cannot be hidden for long and an untold truth must be told and errors accepted, at least to satiate the souls. Perhaps, this story will break our perception of the 'other' and give a better perspective into our own conscience and the idea of justice that should be created with informed choice rather than coached and directed ideas manufactured through populist beliefs and propaganda that have been forced into constructing prejudice and bigotry in our minds while comfortably misjudging the other.

This is a (sadly true) story of General Wheeler, a British General, who had camped in Cawnpore, India, along with his wife, son, daughter and close to 900 others who had by then made India their home for over 50 years. He could even converse well in Hindi and was very confident that a sepoy mutiny - an uprising in 1857 - would pass away without affecting him or his camp for the kind of influence he felt he had in the community and the arms and ammunition he had shared with the Indian sepoys and Kings. He was wrong.
To move on to the lesser known part of the story for many Indians, on June 27th, 1857 when the sepoy mutiny started spreading out in India, the sepoys stepped into General Wheeler's Camp in Cawnpore led by Nana Sahib, a Maratha Peshwa, who was radiating a sum total of irritation for having been denied the pension his father was receiving and was also in the verge of losing the kingdom as he was an adopted child and not a legal heir as was demanded by Lord Dalhousie's Doctrine of Lapse - a British annexation policy that was aimed at helping the Brits extend their colony through policy than war.
While the old Wheeler was sure that Nana, a good friend of his, who had even received a good supply of arms and ammunition from him recently, would not attack him or his camp, as they say, 'For a man walking with a hammer, everything looks like a nail,' this white camp became a target for Nana Sahib who was on a destructive spree.
He started the first attack on the fort and successfully managed to kill a few including Wheeler's son. Later, old Wheeler and his group were promised a safe passage through the Ganges by the Nana if they surrender. They did; and while in the boats in what was supposed to be a safe passage, Nana went back on his promise and in a sheer act of betrayal, ordered his troop to assault and kill everyone - including Wheeler.

Amidst the war cries and witnessed blows that killed their unsuspecting men, the women pleaded with the sepoys to kill them and the children then and there as well; Nana, however, had other plans. The 210 women and children - all white - who were still alive, were to be his pawns in a ploy to bargain with the Brits to reinstate him as the ruler of his kingdom. They were marched back to town and incarcerated in a single-storey house, the 'Bibighar', which means the ‘House of wives’ where they were kept from 27th June, 1857 until 16th July, 1857 with very little food, hygiene, comfort or propriety.
On 15 July, Nana Sahib received news that a company of British soldiers, under the command of General Sir Henry Havelock was on its way for the rescue.
Panicked, Nana ordered the execution of all the women and children.
The Indian sepoys dispatched to murder the women and the little children, had the poor souls come to a room one by one and closed the doors - sealing their exit and fate. Unable to shoot them point blank as ordered from close range, they began shooting the first round through the windows and vents, refusing to look at what they were shooting at. By the end of a round, the shrieks, screams and cries from the wailing souls were too much to take even for the hard-hearted, remorseless and order-obedient soldiers. They found the task too distasteful and could not press the trigger anymore. They stopped.
Nana Sahib called them cowards and ordered professional butchers from the neighbourhood to be brought to the site immediately. The Butchers arrived wearing aprons and wielding cleavers all ready for the slaughter. They showed no qualms in wielding their meat cleavers.
Amidst the screams and blood, each one crying in pain as the butcher's blades severed them mercilessly, some screamed even louder watching their loved ones fall prey to the hungry cleavers that eventually broke from overwork. The pitiless task was completed, leaving almost every British woman and child dead and dismembered by Nana's butchers.
The following morning, the butchers found three women and three children, aged under seven, covered in blood, still alive, quivering beneath the piles of dead bodies in an attempt to hide. They had no time to cut them as the British army was closing in. The six undead, were dragged and thrown, one-by-one, down a 50-foot deep well, and there suffocated under the weight of corpses and body parts butchered earlier - stripped, ripped, sliced and thrown on top of them. And then there was this deadly silence.

A witness described the remains of the Massacre at Cawnpore as follows:
“I was never more horrified! The place was one of mass blood. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that the soles of my boots were more than covered with the blood of these poor wretched creatures. [I found] quantities of dresses, clogged thickly with blood, children’s frocks, frills, and ladies’ under clothing of all kinds, also boys’ trousers, leaves of Bibles . . . and hair, early a yard long; bonnets all bloody, and one or two shoes . . . All the way to the well was marked by a regular track along which the bodies had been dragged, and the thorny bushes had entangle in them scraps of clothing and long hairs. I have looked upon death in every form, but I could not look down that well again”

A memorial (pic. above) for the dead was erected over the well into which the slaughtered bodies were thrown and still stands as a testimony to this beastly, cowardly and gory incident in Kanpur (then Cawnpore), U.P., India. The retribution from the Brits for this was brutal - then and later.

Why did the butchering in Cawnpore happen in the first place? Why did the sepoy mutiny even begin in 1857? Well, it was not the pig and cow fat smeared bullets (alone). What was the significance of '1857'? It was more than anything else, the commemoration of the 100 years of British rule in India - since the first battle of Robert Clive in the Battle of Plassey in 1757 - a retributive reminder from the Indian side with something brutal that the Brits would never forget, to run home their point, that they were not welcome any more that was mixed with unlimited ounces of selfish motives and other cruel intentions which only the dead should tell.
While this incident would make every Indian who boasts of peace and non-violence as part of his/her cultural upbringing hang his/her head in shame if and when s/he comes to know about this incident at Cawnpore, at times I wonder if we really need a freedom got this way. To fathom an idea of revenge, that we had to kill, butcher and terrorize a group so indiscriminately - blind to the weak and even the innocent - in an attempt to get this idea of freedom that makes no sense to me now. Were we so hungry in this lust for flesh that we wrung the necks of women and children to satiate our appetite? Did our flesh conquer our senses then? Did no one stop anyone? Did not one person stand up to defend the defenseless? Were we at a barbaric orgy of flesh and blood?

Meanwhile, the following is Dyer's (The British Brigadier - yes, he was never a General - referred to as the 'Butcher of Amritsar') statement directed at the local residents of Amritsar on the afternoon of 14 April 1919, a day after the Amritsar massacre:
"...You have committed a bad act in killing the English. The revenge will be taken upon you and upon your children."
This incident that happened in General Wheeler's camp in Cawnpore, was perhaps the incident that justified Dyer's butchery at Amristar - something that he later during his trial in England referred to as 'an act of conscience'. The Brits in London agreed with him and even gathered over 28, 000 pounds to support him during the trials. Dyer during the trial, finally said, 'Let not man but God decide whether I am right or wrong.' Dyer lived the rest of his life in a cottage in the British countryside until his natural death later.

While India roasts the white man for killing 379 (according to the Brits) to 1000 (according to the Indians) people during the Jalianwalla Bagh Massacre or for ignoring the death of 2-3 million Indians during the Bengal Famine, we must not forget to teach our children the capability of Indians to do (horrific) evil as well that is quite evident from the unsaid incident at General Wheeler's Camp at Cawnpore. No Nana or Rani or Shah who fought the mutiny did so with the independence of India in mind yet only for reasons exceptionally and extremely personal and self-oriented and nothing even close for a common good. Rani Lekshmi Bai fought to get her adopted son the rule after her time as the Doctrine of Lapse would go against her realizing this wish. Nana - an adopted son himself who was refused the pension given to his parents, fought against the Doctrine of Lapse to get himself the throne and nothing else. Even Bahadur Shah II - the last Mughal emperor, who was called to enter the fight had no intention of entering it in the first place yet was only compelled to do so against his will. Eventually, the Rani was killed in a battle and Shah II was captured and sent into exile to Burma; while, after the butchering in Cawnpore, Nana Sahib, absconded from the scene and was never to be seen again and perhaps, lived happily ever after - considering the fact that when he chickened off, he did not forget to take the Muslim caretaker of Bhibighar, who was one of his mistresses, along with him.
The Indian government has released a stamp in his honour.
Shame on us...

The Royal Enfield Bullet That Killed An Indian

What does the Indian youth's favourite bike today and the Indian freedom struggle have in common?

Ask any Indian boy or a self-proclaimed Indian gentleman from yester-years what his dream bike is, and he will tell you, 'The Royal Enfield Bullet,' with an air of pride gushing at his irrevocable matter of choice. It is a great bike, no disappointment in that, no matter what the model; people take pride to flash the acronym that reads 'RE', the emblem of the gun and the logo that reads, 'Made like a gun, flies like a bullet.' Girls like it too and often subconsciously connect a man riding a Bullet bike to masculinity.
Capitalizing on this craze and trend, this bike company has catapulted its sales volume and sells more than a million bikes a year at a price set understandably high from a pure economic perspective - more the demand, higher the price in today's market situation. Simple and wonderful!

Now lets go back a bit into some rotting pages of History. To make it more specific and even dustier; lets get back to a dark chapter of Indian History. The year was 1857, must have been a year of frustrations I believe, by this time, Lord Dalhousie's Doctrine of Lapse, an annexation policy of the British Empire was at its full swing - which basically said that the Brits would take over kingdoms that did not have a heir to the throne while refusing to accept prospective adopted children as legal heirs, this lapse of heirs, infuriated a few like Rani Lekshmi Bai of Jhansi who felt her adopted son, Damodar Rao would not reach the throne and also Nana Sahib a Maratha Peshwa who was earlier refused pension by the East India Company was now at the verge of losing the chances of inheriting a kingdom as well, as he too was adopted.
We (Indians) already had over 3, 00, 000 (Three Lakhs) sepoys serving as loyal British troops while the actual white Brit soldiers stationed here (in India) stood a head-count of only 50, 000 (Fifty Thousand Only) - a 6:1 ratio which tilted the scales for the Indian sepoys who in turn felt that they could demand better working conditions and could have their way - the thug way - with a mere display of majority in power. Sounds familiar isn't it?

Trouble was reported to be brewing in barracks and brothels visited by the soldiers and it only intensified and reached its brim when the Brits introduced the "Bullets" that were supposedly smothered in pig and cow fat that came straight from His/Her Majesty's "Royal" Empire that had to be bit (by the predominantly Hindu and Muslim sepoys who found it religiously insensitive to be asked to do something like that) before being loaded into the "Enfield" rifles. Rings a bell now? Yep, it is the same company that made those rifles and bullets that erupted the sepoy mutiny then that makes those much favoured bikes today.
The sepoy mutiny resulted in the death of over 2, 392 Brits and over 1, 00, 000 Indian sepoys and resulted in only a more oppressive rule and in the creation of an equally paranoid society - both ways - rather than any whiff of freedom for the Indian side. Each side demonstrated its barbaric side and there began a silently silenced holocaust at our side of the map. And to think that it all erupted because of the Royal Enfield Bullets...

Now you know why the word "Royal Enfield Bullet" that we feel so proud to possess today in our lapels and bikes and everything connected therewith, would not have appealed to our first freedom fighters and nationalists a few decades ago - no matter how subtly they announce where it is made, who makes it or how it is expected to fly.  Have we betrayed history or is this a historic betrayal by not knowing this fact?
Meanwhile, when an array of the Royal Enfield Bullet thumps its way past me with riders flashing their grin moving those wasted miles on the road - perhaps a symbolic representation of an equally purposeless and wasted life they have, each thump reminds me of a bullet from the white man's gun that shattered the counted and discounted Indians who laid down their lives for refusing to use the Royal Enfield and Bullets that day. Perhaps at the end of the day, for many, this sentiment is invalid and the bike is more important today. Well, ride on...

A Tryst With Destiny

Recently, I have been laughing my head off listening to proverbs and quotes with a slight twist... to make some impression, I notice that people add a list of (for no better way to put it,) 'bad' words to their punchlines. I hate being judgmental while at the same time wonder why people call certain words as "bad" nevertheless get offended by them when most words actually are just another way of mentioning frivolous aspects of our lives. What makes us laugh, sure makes us think.

Of all the things happening around that one may laugh at, the chance to laugh at 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' or rather the idea that cleaning a country's filth left over by the dumping of wastes and irresponsible discharge of pollutants into land, water and air (like many of our politician's speeches that we accidentally listen to,) by giant, greedy corporat(e)s rests on the hands and head of the individuals, is hilarious as it makes no sense. Shouldn't the cola companies and mining companies be cleaning their own mess? Shouldn't they be held responsible for that? Or should the burden be passed on to the citizen's shoulder for the government's incompetency to stop the corporat(e)s from littering?! Anyways, why bother when a broom in the hand and dirt pan on the head can spin a political wheel or should I say, help a political flower bloom in India.

India's tax policy is another joke that drives me bonkers. Just take for example the case where a baker pays GST for the bread, another GST for the olive, yet another for the cheese and one more and another for the meat, pepper and anything else he throws into making a pizza and charges us for all the ingredients, why does he charge us yet another GST for the whole pizza one more time?! Isn't it multiple taxation yet again for a country that is already unbelievably in a double taxation system without going for war?
Concerning concepts for jokes, no one in India dare claim a shortage - the idea of imposing the aadhar down the throat and up the arse of every citizen, the dysmal disregard for privacy and total disregard for personal rights, the soaring prices, the plunging pay scales and when I start counting the jokes one has that can make use of proverbs and quotes with the added twist, the chances of finding concepts for a hilarious laugh are limitless as the issues knock down one domino after the other and one can have a knock-out night of stand-up comedy just by speaking the truth.

70 years of independence and I am still waiting... like many in our villages and high ranges do as they wait for electricity to light a single bulb while our ministers howl over a digital India and e-payments that will surely brighten the lives of the entire nation, waiting like many who lack a toilet in their home or even the basic sanitation and like the many more who live on the pavements for the lack of a home to begin with - to be saved from our superstars and their kids who run on alcohol who in turn wait to run over them with their super-fast, imported sports car that run on liquid gold for remorseless fun and know how to get away with it too, I am waiting like the scores whose land has been grabbed, whose jobs have been looted and their livelihood pushed off their grounds to give way for some luxury hotel or a chain of resort to come in, like the many whose daughters have been raped, son's illegally detained, father's tortured and mother's abused as they are voicelessly forced to wait for justice as they hide from the stigma cast by their own shadow, I am waiting just like that 70 year old man named independence who has seen enough, with just as much strength, with just as much hope that the 70 years of life of watching the same ruthlessness over and over again can bear before singing the eulogy of an entire nation go down the pits of a pre-dug grave right in the front, left, right, state and center.

Even death, as I see it in India, is merciless as the poor, innocent migrant worker from Tamil Nadu - Murugan, who met with an accident in Kerala would have experienced it last week as he was rushed from hospital to hospital, pleading with one doctor and another to treat him and finally after being refused treatment by several learned doctors in seven different hospitals, after almost seven hours died helplessly due to neglect of treatment. (These are times when I feel like screaming underwater.) At the end of the day, all that the government needed to do to get away with this inhumane murder was mention a 'sorry' - a 'sorry' that marks the state of our conscience 70 years post-independence for the world to see.

Meanwhile, Indian politicians have resorted to the culture of silence by learning the art of evading questions in political platforms and have decided to grow fat in silence on their loot. India's freedom struggle kicked off with a debate over the dead fat of mute animals and today's reason to celebrate our freedom seems to be for no different reason. 70 years of independence and I am still waiting like many... for the freedom that was supposed to be.

So How Far Are You From Home?!

Politics... organizational politics, dirty politics; where cheap, slimy, worthless slithering reptiles crawl; understanding well that they will be unfit to exist anywhere else. Given space, most work hard on trying to figure out how not to work instead of finding ways to work; if only they would invest their time to boost their productivity...

Lesser said, it is not less often that I wonder how interesting life would be if it were a little slower like in the good old days of my great granddad who perhaps toiled in the fields and the sweat at the end of the day would do to show the work rather than some silly result from an administered performance appraisal; and when HR management was seen by the way people would drop in the next day at the door for work even without having to sign a lumpy contract; and the care shown by the grandma who would make the snacks and tea for their break-time munch was seen as good enough to retain the proletariat rather than a carrot at the end of the stick the management holds out to the ever-greedy, ever-needy generation today that tries to grab it till the end of their career-precisely the way it was intended to be.

Today, I look at the speed at which the world runs for my children and am unsurprizingly amazed. A father who goes to work early and too busy focusing on what to do when he gets there that the morning drifts off just as early as it started; by late evening he gets back and with saddles of work removed after running around like a panting labour-horse,  hardly finds the strength or the energy to hug his kids; The mother who gets to know all about the dirtier side of the world through the little window of the apartment and the newspaper that is thrown in through it and who quite understandably protects the children like a jailer protects his territory; The children who perhaps made no mistake to be born in this God-forsaken, devil-breeding, "I-Hate-This" place that makes me wonder... "Why the f*$k am I here?!" in the first place.

Just as a friend to many, is a friend to none, a place that belongs to everybody belongs to none. This mixed feeling of purposelessness to exist in a particular place is often shadowed by our unjustified reason to blame it on the future of the kids which we seldom realize is destroyed rather than created. It is tempting to say, "Home sweet home is the answer"... yet again, too far and hardly reached, with identities changed and hardly recognized, home too is redefined as the place where one finds love is... It is our greed, greed for power, status, recognition, and to run-away and start fresh as a stranger in a distant land, to be free and feel liberated that makes us lose more than we could possibly gain and to end up earning to go back from where we started even if it has to begin right from the scratch. And at times, a pragmatic reminder of reality and a shaken yet not stirred dash of utopia with a sprinkle of idealism is all the concoction one needs to stay dazed in a busy, pointless world; nothing matters any more and life is just a drag to bear till the end of the grave...

Wake Up And Smell The Coffee

These days I hear some people say with a glee that they want to bring up their children the American way. When I ask them what this "American" way is?! it seems they feel that logical upbringing based on well founded, profound and established psychological theories and "expert" advice picked from parenting magazines is what they claim to be American. The great American dream I thought... perhaps to be honest, even I have had my share of pull towards this lure to attempt to try and control others by forcing them into the box in which I would like to see them contained so that everything becomes easier for me (unbothered about what harm I do to others)... the American way.
Then when you face reality and decide to brave it, the humble Indian ideology of giving up control and understanding the beauty of nothingness seems much more comforting, easier and worthy of pursuing.

Today, I see nations getting a taste of their own medicine otherwise prepared for others. Wars planned out to explode in other countries, break out within their own boundaries; nuclear war heads and power stations and armouries stored to the brim and even overflowing with weapons of mass destruction which were supposedly meant to protect a country and indicate development, has become the weakest spot which needs to be protected and has strained our concentration and has diverted our attention away from things more humanely worthy of pursuing like education, health, employment and sustainability so much so that we have hardly moved anywhere and in the charts of development, "stagnation" seems to be a pretty spot at which we sit. Countries have chosen to build industries on farm lands and raise their begging bowls for food to neighbouring states; States on the other hand, chose to build dams to keep water for themselves and end up flooding their land instead. Oh! what a community of idiots we live in, a community rich with idiot admirers and a community of idiots we have become... hahaha...
We have chosen to exchange life for death and freedom for security. We have failed to understand the meaning of life in our attempts to conquer death. We have brilliantly mutilated genes, produced bio-engineered vegetables and have exemplified our scientific advancement in bio-medical, bio-tech and bio-xyz and have made our land worthless and as barren as a frigid woman and we dare to call her with shameless pride "our motherland" after abusing her with so much of experimenting right in her womb. If our people show any sign of dissent or grief or growth, we label them as "grave internal threats" without wasting time to look into what they are crying about and take them up into the stakes to be burnt; and the rest of us, with folded hands watch in silence fit for the dead; instead, we might as well stand and applaud-might be the same thing. We have shown the world, especially the white world, that the brown people are the next best replacement for rats, rabbits and monkeys which the whiteman and woman seem to really care about and feel are too delicate to experiment on; here, we, who pledge that "all Indians are our brothers and sisters" at every patriotic gathering and assembly, have gladly given up our men, women, children and aged-mostly ignorant, commonly innocent and always poor as testing grounds and as human samples for experimenting their new found drugs on as medical trials; and our coastal lines have become the dumping ground for nuclear waste, scrapped ships, outdated technologies and desolate garbage of other countries.

Traitors and betrayers are never born outside the borders, they are always, as history shows us, within; thriving like maggots inside our borders, within our states, within our communities, within our families and within our homes-those that we seldom succeed to recognize even if exposed right in front of our very eyes. Its the so called "our people" who cut those traps for our miserable (down) fall all along the way. These days, I abhor this category of ridiculous, filthy species puddled in their filthy hypocrisy, prejudice and bigotry... Isn't it wonderful to watch-the complacency in which the children rest watching the filth that cover the "mother"land?!

"So what?!" some of my friends have asked and still do. "Afterall, if it brings in the moolah (a.k.a money) why bother?!" Well, I think its time we begin to see the trade-off. We have started trading our brains, backs and body for this well chosen money as we claim. We are elsewhere and chose to work for someone else or we are here yet work for someone else; we have made ourselves a plastic world that thrives on plastic cash to acquire plastic things... remarkable. We have learnt to spend money that we don't own and slave to pay off the acquired debt with money that we haven't earned yet... all for what?! Material that we don't even need. We have exchanged sense for greed and we think accumulating enough to call it a day is somewhere right there round the corner; yet, no matter how many twists and turns, the unwinding road keeps on drifting.
This world likes packages; gifts, commodities, machines, salaries, men, women, children, body parts, womb-name it and you have it sold in the nearest market...  packed, tagged and sealed ready for consumption-some sold local while some go global. In the 'global market'-(as we lovingly call it,)-everyone is up for sale-some to the highest bidder and some to the longest keeper; it is here that morale and values get traded for cash; it is in here that the shapeable-flexible-twistable mind and pre-shaped body conforming to social preconception of beauty, fit snugly into its prefixed contours-that the buyers seeks gladly to pick; the remaining leftovers-considered unfit-the free minds and the complacent bodies, are shelved till they begin to crawl to survive and their back is bent; its (only) then, that they get picked and sent to be indented, smashed, thrashed and polished till they shine like the keeper wants them to. Objects of desire we have become, as we deserve to be, for letting others decide who we ought to be. It is in this belly of the market that people sell themselves everyday, to survive, some sell their bodies, some their minds and everyone their soul. This market perhaps is synonymous to a place we find shameful to mention or find hard to be associated with... "So what's wrong afterall its for moolah?!" I ask them.

To be rationale and not ridiculous, lets agree... this great force-fed "American dream" that we try to grab like arse-scratching apes, is not even worthy of pursuing to begin with. Well, how well have those American kids brought up the "American way" turned out to be at the end of the day?!... there are still more muggers, still more murderers, still more psychopathic children, sociopathic teenagers and almost every other adult is fear-ridden, fear-driven and fear-controlled, ever more need for old-age homes, orphanage, shelter-homes and jails, more and more desolate and broken families with run-away parents as well as run-away children-who don't want to take care of their own; there is still no dearth for rapists and racists, divorce and separations, teenage-pregnancies, homelessness, drug, alcohol and other substance abusers; social fragmentation, defabrication, stratification, pain, pathetic chaos and panic that is still nakedly visible and rampant in the great and mighty, almighty U.S of A that tries its best to hide behind the Emperor's new robe and waiting for that moment for a child to say, "But, he has nothing at all!"
Chewing paan and spitting witnessed in other places is considered disgusting by them; yet, chewing someone's head walking into their own homes and spitting blood, is glorified in the name of war and security as the world watches on(?!)-How civilized is that?!
Attempts to Americanize the whole world goes by not just seeding their products, genetic modifications, drugs, pesticides and people yet also by installing weapons, aid and military which goes to prove the terrible and horrible insecurity of a minority that is solely dependent on others for its survival and bothered about its survival alone; this is not just boring, it is unsustainable and simply not possible with a better world lying outside and often within our own territories that is seldom realized yet hard to let go.

Yet, muted, mutilated, humiliated and lost, we stand at crossroads; stuck, stranded and stagnant-this my friends, is the reality India wakes up to in the stroke of the midnight hour when the rest of the world sleeps, on our close-to-7-decades of unclaimed independence left to rot. It is in seeking goodness that I wish that as a nation what we require is perhaps a "Time-out" like American parents do, the glorified American way, sit and think in a corner and reflect on what we have done and what we can do to undo the damages done. Once undone and done with it, let us awake, arise and stop not till our goal is reached (as we can't reap harvest by ploughing and rolling the field in our thoughts alone) to bring forth a better India, a India that moves, a India that is sustainable, that is grounded and above all, a India that manages to find the courage to stand in its own feet.
Till that day comes, sleep on India, sleep on... after all thy mother's lap treasures thee, as she sings a lullaby with tears swelling up her eyes as she waits for her children to wake up from their pretended slumber...

The Isolation Chamber

The history behind this actuating, rusting, rotten metal sheath is that this is through which you would have been fed just enough to keep you alive if you were a brown Man caught fighting for freedom. It was hard not to feel the pain while there thinking that when thrown into one such cell, the movement of this solid iron piece was the only thing one could see or hear besides one's very own movement (if any) as the rest of the people roamed outside, shamelessly unmindful of their slave-like condition, living a life as ever-obedient slaves to their masters and traitors to their very own.

Looking from where I stand today, I realize that this dreamy freedom that some of our so called "brown dogs" got us in exchange for their lives they gave up with a smile when the last tight noose smeared with shrapnel tightened around their hearts, they perhaps hoped that we and the generations to follow, might be able to experience the joy of such a freedom they could only dream of then.

If we peruse on those lines, that dream of theirs was better than the reality today. The aliens who were here to mine our wealth in the name of a company, are back and this time, from several quarters and cleverly disguised, to mine our poverty in the name of corporate, multinational companies and other foreign and international organizations and institutions to capitalize and optimize on our vulnerability-the basis on which MoUs and contracts are signed. These are neo-capitalists, who see us nothing more than a Return on Investment (RoI) and our lives, our communities and the problems we deal with as their Unique Selling Point (USP) to reap, pack and sell outside our borders to nurture profits and dividends back in their homes out of which a portion found fitting for us to keep us alive is thrown at us for which we are busy fighting among ourselves to take a grab of the morsel. Oh! didn't they know well and perhaps too well that when divided, they rule?!...

We are being silently and systematically plundered, ruined and tagged and we are carrying these imprints yet it is not such a rarity that these isolation chambers are what many walk into these days willfully and voluntarily giving up pride, respect and dignity which some of our earlier brown dogs refused to exchange for the rationed morsels of life thrown at them. Slaves, traitors and betrayers still live on and long amongst us. Yet it moves...

My Misadventure With Truth

Today my country celebrates its Republic Day, the day it brought forth one of the longest constitution drafted within three years since its independance into effect in one of the world's largest democracy. My friends, those poor natives a.k.a "our grave internal threats" who are getting killed for trying to preserve their land, territory and resources would regard this day as the day a plan was laid to curtail their freedom-in pretext of providing welfare through compulsive reforms, the day when their pride and age-old tradition, culture and wisdom were snatched, hatched, boxed and despatched to fit into blueprints drawn to make them nothing more than exhibits in our historical archives. They have not succeeded still (thank goodness!) yet they haven't tried to stop trying too. Duh!

Have some of the neo-modern slaves gained freedom by gaining their monetary benfits by selling their dignity, time, families and self? Have corporate slaves who work for their needs within those COBs in well strategized segregations (usually based on race) that the segregator (usually the one who is trusted with running the organization) feels others are too stupid to notice-really not notice? Has slavery really ended when our fundamental rights are snatched in the name of some new-found policies that we are made to follow "obligatorily"? If not, your slavehood is lost.

Today, if you raise your voice against these practises, those 'holier than thou art' humans who indulge in it, would call you "violent," "need tuning" and sit you quietly to "observe" what they do which they think is the best. This is neither the best nor is it sustainable as there is fault in their thought; the thought that they think that there is nothing beyond their race or their learning that they can see in others. This limitation is their downfall. And this downfall inevitable if this scenario persists. Till then what is the point in a constitution, policies, rights, freedom and liberty? Just a mockery of international injustice and missions right at your face... hahaha! Atleast I can laugh thinking of those who think that I was born yesterday or can I?

The Lover's Temptation

Testing the man's impulse, temptation reigns.

With the maiden's simplest twist,
melody galored, beauty adored.
The ravaging beast within, all set to devour;
Knowing not, the prey lies in sweet surrender.

Lying thus between the mythical lines of insanity,
vain, pain and seductive pleasure all entwined.
Tempest of lust rising like wildfire.
Amidst hope and shattering despair,
raining clouds could have drenched the reigning moan.

Yet, with a harmonious glow with nothing left to conquer
began the exploration of the soul.
Bodies tied like a hangman's rope,
the noose neither killing nor letting go.
Kisses, soft and hungry too, muscles twitch with every move,

Coiling like serpents in tight embrace,
the heart doth race to the lover's pace.
Lifting high on the air above, to let her fly as she will...
yet she leaned to reach her lovers lip,
to grab another moment of sheer bliss.

A walk into the wilderness with the kiss of love,
shackles of restraint broken in haste.
No more turmoil of the world below.
with heaven too far to reach above
rose the stars with twinkling glee,
Life was worth living free.
